On the 27th of August, during our second visit to Malawi as part of the One Body Program, we had an impactful time of reflection and dialogue, discussing critical issues shaping our communities today. We explored themes like Kairos: Now is the favorable time– reminding us that the present moment is the right time for change, and Sankofa: Learning from the past, drawing lessons from history to inform our future actions. We also delved into culture, understanding how it shapes our beliefs and actions, and reflected on the lessons from the HIV/AIDS pandemic—what we’ve learned and how we can apply those lessons today. Central to the discussion was Jesus and His culture,reflecting on how He engaged with His context and how that can guide us in ours. We also addressed the challenges faced by sexual minorities, including issues around human sexuality and gender identity,and considered the lived experiences of parents. The conversation also touched on the legal context in Malawi, particularly court cases affecting marginalized groups, and how churches can constructively engage with these issues.
